North Brother Island, NYC

We went to North Brother Island today. It is a small uninhabited island off of the coast of Manhattan. There is a hospital there that served as a TB treatment center then later drug rehab for troubled youths in the 60s. Today it is an urban ruin and a sanctuary for birds.

I want to return to visit the other building. It's just another part of the city one can discover by boat. I love the water.

This how how we got there:

Awesome! I've heard of that place before. It looks like a great place to explore.

How is your foot coming along? Are you able to run? Missed you over at runners!

I have started running again, but I am very much out of shape. It will take a good long while to get back to the level I was at when I was hit.

Thanks-- I remember learning about this when asking about the worst disasters in the cities history.

I love that some of the fire boat seem to be still around. even if they are sinking... it'd be fun to go see them.

God that's fantastic. (Glad to know I'm not the only grownup who likes playing in dangerous ruins & climbing trees). Sigh. Back to doing the club results which is what I was meant to be doing before I got distracted...

Brother Island
What a beautiful building and environment. Too bad it has fallen into disuse in the last 40+ years.
